Mahatma GandhiOne of the letters written by Gandhiji was withdrawn from Christie's auction house London so that it could be handed over to the Indian Government. Apparently, the letter was written by Mahatma Gandhi 19 days before his assassination by Nathuram godse on January 30, 1948. This has been a commendable task done by the Indian government. The letter was expected to be sold for up to $24,000.

Christie's is a fine art auction house, the largest and by some accounts the oldest in the world. It was founded in London, England on 5 December 1766 by James Christie. Christie's soon established a reputation as a leading auction house and is currently the world's largest auction house by revenues. More recently, Christie's has auctioned off artwork and personal possessions linked to historical figures such as Pablo Picasso; Rembrandt; Diana, Princess of Wales; Leonardo da Vinci; Vincent van Gogh; Napoleon Bonaparte; Marilyn Monroe; and others.
