Zachary Boyd caught fighting the Talibans in pink boxersMay 15th, 2009 - 10:12 pm ICT by GD
Imagine what will be your condition if you suddenly find yourself fighting the Talibans. Well, the instance is surely nerve wrecking. But this is exactly what happened to 19 year old Zachary Boyd when he along with his platoon was under a Taliban assault. Boyd was spotted in his t-shirt, pink boxer shorts and slippers fighting the Talibans since he only had the time to wear his body armor and helmet and grab his weapon.
The photograph of Boyd in his pink boxers was taken very cleverly by a photographer and it appeared on the on the first page of “The New York Times.” The photograph was taken during the attack in Firebase Restrepo in the Korengal Valley of Kunar Province. The photograph is very ironic considering the fact that Zachary Boyd comes from one of the most well equipped army in the whole world. To add to the comic effect the boxers announced - “I love New York.”
Zachary Boyd’s father, Tommy Boyd has commented on the local Texas radio station WBAP that he knew his son was the “boxer guy. I knew that for sure. I did not know they were pink, and I didn’t know they said, ‘I love New York’.” He also said, “after I saw the picture I just laughed for about five minutes.” It seems like Boyd was already expecting the photograph on the newspapers because he had warned his mother, Sheree Boyd. Zachary Boyd also commented that he feared that he “may not have a job any more after the President has seen me out of uniform.”
