WWF “strongly condemns” unapproved 9/11 commercial

WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) — The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) “strongly condemns” the unauthorized release of a commercial which refers to the terrorist attacks in New York on September 11, 2001 and the tsunami disaster in 2005.

The WWF says that the Tribbo Post, which is an advertising agency in Brazil, created a movie and poster as part of an ad campaign which it then offered to the organization. “The concept was summarily rejected by WWF and should never have seen the light of day,” said Leslie Aun, a spokesperson for WWF.

Both the poster and video commercial, which shows the WWF logo, has been leaked to internet websites and is causing outrage among 9/11 survivors and family members, as well as the general public.

The video starts with a passenger plane crashing into one of the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, before a second plane crashes into the second tower a few seconds later. “In 2001, one of the worst tragedies in the history of humanity killed 2,819 people,” a text reads following the crashes.

The text is followed by a view of the World Trade Centers towers, which are both on fire. Moments later, dozens of passenger planes can be seen flying low towards lower Manhattan. As a text fades in, the sound of planes crashing into towers can be heard. “In 2005, the tsunami killed 280,000 people. That’s 100 times more deaths. Our planet is brutally powerful. Respect it. Conserve it,” a text reads, followed by the WWF logo.

The WWF insists it does not support the advertisement. “We strongly condemn the messages and images portrayed in this ad.”

The commercial, which might be considered shocking to some viewers, can be seen below.
