London, Sept 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A judge in Britain has sentenced a woman who drove the wrong way on a motorway to nine months in prison. The woman drove about 23 miles on the busy M5 opposite to the traffic and only stopped when she came to the hard shoulder of the road.

43-year-old Deborah Hunt had to swerve several times to avoid hitting oncoming vehicles. It was later realized that she had excess alcohol in her system and her vehicle had no insurance. She was handed the sentence on Wednesday at the Bristol Crown Court.

The judge told Deborah that it will not be in the public interest if she is allowed to go free for the danger she placed several people in. She pleaded guilty to the charges of dangerous driving, driving with excess alcohol and driving without insurance.

Deborah was driving at a speed of 60mph on the motorway. The incident happened on the 14th of July at about 11 pm. The court was told that Deborah is having problems with her ex-husband and unemployment status.

Judge Mark Horton told Deborah that, “It is clear that the combination of the stress and alcoholism you have suffered created an extremely dangerous position, culminating in this offence. I would be failing in my duty if I did not reflect the seriousness of what you did by imposing an immediate custodial sentence.”
