July 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) It is a truly sad day for Tweeter all over the world, as the oldest person to use Twitter died today at the age of 104 years. Ivy Bean grew bored with being the world’s oldest Facebook user over a year ago, and left her 4800 Facebook pals to join the ranks of Twitterers everywhere.

Ivy gained over 50,000 followers on the famous social networking site, with her tales of meeting the Prime Minister, and eating her favorite meal of fish and chips. She also shared antidotes from her life at Hillside Manor, the nursing home where she resided.

In early June, there was the eerie sound of silence for a week as her normally happy updates were interrupted when Ivy was placed in the hospital from jaundice. The announcement was finally made by the manager at her home, Pat. It was told that she would be back to Tweet to her followers soon.

Health updates and messages from Ivy have been Tweeted by Pat ever since, but Ivy was not well enough to type her notes herself. Just a few hours ago the sad news was told in Pat’s own Tweets. “Hello all of ivys twitter friend by now you will have heard about our dear friend she i cannot explain how we are all feeling here”, and then seconds later: “ivy passed away peacefully at 12.08 this morning.”

Ivy’s name has been trending worldwide ever since the news of her death broke…a memorial befitting the “World’s Oldest Tweeter”. May she rest in peace.
