New York, April 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Women have cleared up a massive hurdle in their quest to achieve equality with men. In the first of its kind, women have outnumbered men when it comes to the gender with advanced college degrees. The data was contained in the census figures which were released on Tuesday.

Women surpassed men in the early 1980s concerning enrollments into the various colleges but this is the first time that women have earned more advanced college degrees than men. Women outnumbered men in bachelor’s degree in 1996.

The report of the census revealed that 10.6 million American females aged 25 years or older have at least a master’s degree. The number is slightly lower in US men at the same age group. The census shows that 10.5 million male Americans have a minimum of master’s degree. The number is quite higher in the numbers that complete school.

The census revealed that 20.1 million female Americans have a bachelor’s degree compared with 18.7 men who successfully completed college. The trend is not different when it comes to the job market.

The unemployment rate among women is 8.3 percent while that of men is 9.3 percent.
