28_wfc_yard1Feb 12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The devastating snowstorm that has been lashing several parts of USA including Washington has made a mess of public life and brought the transport system of the regions on knees. The administration is trying its level best to restore normalcy but it was forced to keep operations closed till Thursday. The WMATA services were also severely affected by the blizzard and the metro which acts as the lifeline of the city was kept shut owing to the inclement weather. However, Metro spokespersons said that partial service may resume from Friday onwards.

According to the available news, over 500 metro car rakes were stranded in tunnels on Wednesday. They could be put into service as Metro authorities said. It remains to be seen how much time it takes to clear the tracks above ground and restore services. A number of rail yards are still under snow, as per the news. The West Falls Church and Shady Grove rail yards are under ice and unless the snow is cleared they cannot be used. Some residents are feeling a bit offended as even after the snowfall has subsided essential transport services remain in jeopardy.

The interested people are checking out the WMATA site for updates on the metro service. Even the bus service run by the metro has taken a beating with merely third of the entire fleet running in the region. The Metro authorities said that they equipped few trains with de-icing equipments but these would not be adequate for the need. Things are slightly better in Philadelphia as SEPTA reported.
