Jerusalem, Sept 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Jewish world observes Rosh Hashana on Wednesday to mark the Hebrew New Year. The Jewish people have set the day aside as the first day of the year in recognition to the creation of the world by GOD. The holiday is observed over a period of two days.

Ahead of the observation of the day, President Barack Obama sent a message to the Jewish community and Israel on Tuesday. The president said that the United States is still the best friend of Israel despite recent developments which suggest that relations between the two nations have strained.

In a video message, President Obama said that, “While we cannot know all that the New Year will bring, we do know this: the United States will continue to stand with Israel, because the bond between our two nations is unshakable…As Jewish tradition teaches us, we may not complete the work, but that must never keep us from trying.”

Obama’s approach to the US relations with Israel has been blamed partly for the plummeting popularity of the president and the Democratic Party domestically. The alarm bells went off when the Democrats lost in two emergency elections at places which were initially considered strongholds of the Democrats.
