Willow Run Air Show 2009 Causes Traffic Congestion

July 19th, 2009 - 7:29 pm ICT by GD Tell a Friend -

willowThe large crowd that had flocked to see the air show almost led to a choking traffic congestion in the area on Saturday, July 18, at Willow Run Airport.

Hundreds had made their way to the event and in the process found themselves stuck in long queues for hours at a stretch as authorities tried to pitch in their best efforts to clear up the messy situation of traffic strangulation.

The gates at event venue are supposed to be thrown open to the gathered crowds at 9 a.m and remain so till 5 p.m each day of the air show being held. Tickets, if reserved in advance, are $20 and come at $25 at the gate. Children under the age of 15 will get a free entry at the air show grounds. The parking facility is available at the gate at $10 per vehicle.

The heavy rush to the show is stemming from one important fact that for the residents in the Michigan area this is the sole chance they have to watch the elite U.S. Navy Air Unit, Blue Angles, this year. The Chrysler Jeep Superstores Thunder Over Michigan 2009 air show held at the Willow Run Airport near Ypsilanti is the only event in Michigan this year that will see the famous unit perform at. On both the days of the event that is held over the weekend on July 18 and 19, attending spectators will get to see the performances of the Blue angles.

The other major attraction in this year’s event is the F-16 East Coast Demo Team, which is also drawing the crowds in such huge chunks.
