Dec 7, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Republic of the Marshall Islands is on the verge of the extinction. Now this is sure to raise many eyebrows. However, this is what is exactly happening in the small island located in the heart of the Pacific Ocean, which is being swallowed by the rising salt levels in the water. It is a pity that not much concern has been shown to this grave matter. Dwellers of the Marshall Islands are eagerly waiting for some action to be taken on the part of the world governing bodies, like for example the U.N where there is also a seat present with the name of the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
According to sources, the sea is encroaching upon the island rapidly and residents are counting their days with a threat of existence. The tiny nation’s climate change coordinator Kaminaga says that the conditions are deteriorating as days are passing by. The giant waves are always posing a threat of cutting the Marshall Islands into two halves. There has been an exceptional toll in the salt level of the sea water. The big question is that will the Marshall Islands actually disappear? If this comes to be true then what will happen to the population of 61,000 Marshallese residing in the island? Their source of living which includes the old fisheries and the undersea minerals will simply get wasted.
Kaminaga who is currently in Cancun with the Marshallese delegation said that the only thing that island dwellers can do is to repeatedly rebuild the sea wall in front. The Marshallese government is at present looking forward to the matter of the questions of nationhood, displacements and other rights.
