Wife Sues Mistress and Wins $9 Million As Compensation

North Carolina, March 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In the year 2005, Cynthia Shackelford’s thirty-three years of married life got shattered by a sudden revelation that her husband was cheating on her and sharing a relationship with another woman. However, unlike other cases, she did not sue her husband for infidelity but went for his alleged mistress and for destroying her marriage. Cynthia Shackelford sued North Carolina university dean of students Anne Lundquist, under charges of “alienation of affection”. Last week judgment was passed in favor of Cynthia Shackelford. Anne Lundquist was ordered by the jury to pay the estranged wife $4 million for punitive damages and $5 million on the ground of compensatory damages.
Cynthia Shackelford who thought her marriage with her lawyer husband Allan Shackelford to be a perfect one for years, got suspicious after his late nights at office increased, according to reports. His unaccounted for credit bills and phone bills also led Cynthia Shackelford to appoint a private detective to keep an eye on her husband. According to reports, it was the private detective who confirmed her fears. Cynthia Shackelford in the year 2005 got separated from her husband Allan Shackelford who was asked by the court to pay alimony of $5000 a month to her. However, according to reports the lady has claimed that her husband has not adhered to the court order.
After the judgment was passed by the jury last week, Cynthia Shackelford said that she had sued Anne Lundquist because the latter knew very well that the person she was dating was married. According to her the divorce has devastated not only her life but also that of her children. The law under which Cynthia Shackelford had sued Anne Lundquist is maintained only in seven states of the United States.
