Washington, Jan 21, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Tareq and Michaela Salahi, the couple who became famous as the White House party crashers, were called up by the House Homeland Security Committee at the Congress on Wednesday, Jan 20. Before the members of the Congress, the couple was asked to explain how they managed to evade the security at the White House, and also managed to shake hands with the Vice President Joe Biden. A federal court is in the process of investigating the matter. The incident raised questions regarding the security of the White House.
However, at the hearing before the House Homeland Security Committee at the Congress, both Tareq Salahi and Michaela Salahi refused to speak on the matter. They asserted their right to remain silent before the questioning party, referring to the rights mentioned in the Fifth Amendment that ensures that a person can remain silent before questions if the answers have the chances of incriminating him or her.
Tareq Salahi further added that neither he nor his wife would be commenting on the matter of the White House party crashing. In fact, he also mentioned that they would be asking their lawyers to meet the staff of the House Homeland Security Committee. They also denied that their action at the White House had anything to do with the reality show that they had appeared in. This action taken by Tareq Salahi and Michaela Salahi have been strongly condemned by some of the members of the investigating committee, who claim that the couple should not have remained silent on the matter and should have explained their actions.
