Dec 21, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Weather is surely acting as a total spoil-sport before the Christmas holidays. Hundreds of flight services has been canceled by British Airways because of heavy ice and snowfall, which in turn left many passengers stranded at the airports. The media outlets reported that nearly ten thousand travelers are still stranded at London’s Heathrow airport and the airport officials are of the opinion that the problems might last till Christmas as well.
The Christmas plans of thousands of passengers seemed to have shattered into pieces as the airport officials advised the travelers not to go to the airport if their flights are not confirmed. Gatwick Airport was closed on Monday night owing to heavy rainfall which even delayed many flights. The British Airport officials reported that near about six hundred flights would take off from the smaller airports in London, where 100,000 passengers would travel. Philip Hammond, the Transport Secretary said that the National Weather Service is showing no green signal as the weather condition is deteriorating day by day.
On the other hand, cancellation of so many flights has disappointed the passengers and the head of the airports are now apologizing for the delay. The head of BAA Ltd., Colin Matthews apologized to the passengers as their holiday plans have gone haywire. On the other hand, a local media reported that he might have to resign from his post for his “inadequate preparations”. The Transport Secretary of Heathrow Airport, in his statement said that owing to severe weather forecast, the passengers will not be able reach their destination this week. Colin Matthews admitted that the airport authorities could not live up to the expectation of the people.
