June 3rd, 2010 - 9:50 pm ICT by Angela Kaye MasonJune 3 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Those who have a Maytag, Amana, Jenn Air, Admiral, Magic Chef, or Performa dishwasher made by Maytag or Crosley, from Whirlpool should be aware that the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) has announced a recent recall by Maytag for approximately 1.7 million dishwashers because of a fire hazard which was discovered on the appliances.
The recall, which was announced on Thursday, was made by Maytag, a branch of Whirlpool Corp, and comes after they manufacturer received 12 reports of electrical issues which lead to failure of the heating element to work properly, causing fires and household damage. No injuries have yet been reported, according to the statements.
The recalled dishwashers have front panels which are black, bisque, white, silver, or stainless steel, with plastic tubs. They were sold at department stores and appliance stores across the United States from February of 2006, to April of 2010. The cost of these washers was between $250 and $900.
The CSPC urges consumers who have these dish washers to stop using them immediately, and disconnect them from the electrical power in your home. A free in home repair or rebate can be scheduled by the consumer. Whirlpool has set aside 75 million dollars to cover the cost of this recall. This is the second recall of major appliances by Maytag in less than a year. In March of 2009, 1.6 million refrigerators were recalled, also due to fire risks. For more information, as well as the serial numbers of the recalled appliances visit the CSPC website here.
