Walter Kendall Myers : Cuban spy
June 6th, 2009 - 9:18 pm ICT by GDA former Department of State employee Dr. Walter Kendall Myers Jr, 72, and his wife Gwendolyn Steingraber Myers, 71, was arrested on June 4, 2009. The couple in their 70s have been charged as spies working on behalf of the Cuban government.
The revelation came about by the joint investigation of the FBI and the Department of State Diplomatic Security. The matter came to light after the two teams toiled at it for a prolonged period of 3 years. The charge brought against the Myers is that of conspiring and divulging important internal information of the nation to a foreign country, Cuba, for over a period of 30 years.
The pair have been declared Cuban spies. According to reports, the elderly couple have admitted their treacherous dealings and links, that have surpassed decades.
Walter Kendall Myers is a retired State Department employee. He had earlier worked as a lecturer at the Foreign Service Institute. Later he joined the Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research (INR) as a European analyst. He worked at the INR from 2000 till he retired in the year 2007. Myers was placed in domestic positions while he worked for the INR. His wife Gwendolyn was never employed by the U. S Department of State, though arrested on the same charges.
The investigation of the FBI and the Department State Securities reveal that Myers’ spy alias is “Agent 202″ and his wife Gwendolyn “Agent 123″ and “Agent E- 634″. The Washington residents made their initial appearance in the U.S District Court of the District of Columbia on June 5. They face a maximum sentence of 35 years in prison if found guilty of the three charges pinned on them.
