waltrAccording to reports, the private funeral for pioneer CBS News anchor Walter Cronkite has been set for Saturday.

“The most trusted man in America” had died on Friday, July 17, at the age of 92 after having suffered a long bout of illness. His demise has left many shattered and brought an end to an era in the context of American news reporting. A CBS spokesperson has confirmed the news that a closed service for the relatives and friends will be held on Thursday at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Manhattan. Reports by the Associated Press states that “the Rev. William Tully will preside over the Episcopal service at the Park Avenue Church”. It is the same church that the Cronkite family has attended for many years.

A separate memorial has been scheduled for the Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center and it is going to be held after Cronkite is cremated and buried at the family plot in Kansas City, in Missouri. Reports suggest that the CBS anchorman is going to be buried next to his beloved wife Betsy, who had passed away in the year 2005. For this reason Cronkite is going to make a return to Missouri. Various sources suggests that Cronkite will be cremated and his ashes will be buried beside where his wife is buried.

“It will be fitting tribute to Mr. Cronkite and the life he lived, the people he knew, the people who loved him and the people he admired,” said Marlene Adler, who has been his longtime chief of staff.
