Walter Cronkite Remembered At Memorial Service

image5296928gWalter Cronkite, the legendary American broadcast journalist, who passed away on the 17th of July of this year was paid homage by the former US President Bill Clinton at a memorial service.

Bill Clinton, who seemed to be quite emotional during the memorial service of the late newsman Walter Cronkite remembered one of the greatest journalist of all time as “a great citizen and a profoundly great human being”.

The memorial service was held on Wednesday. Clinton praised Cronkite for “an inquiring mind and a caring heart and a careful devotion to the facts”. Clinton, who had seen Cronkite as a youngster became quite close to him during his adulthood, said that he used end up going crazy about Cronkite. Other personalities who were scheduled to appear at Cronkite’s memorial service were his CBS colleagues, astronaut Buzz Aldrin, musicians Wynton Marsalis and Mickey Hart, and the US President Barack Obama.

Cronkite, who was referred to as “the most trusted man of America” for his fact based Journalistic approach that had earned him worldwide respect and fame reportedly passed away on July 17. He was 92 at the time of his sad demise.

Cronkite’s death brought an end to an era of “clean journalism” which is hardly observed these days. Former NBC anchor Tom Brokaw referred him as “a seminal force in the transformation of this country”. Brokaw added by saying, “Walter Cronkite and all those early (TV news) pioneers lifted the lamp and showed us the wider world and allowed us to understand it more clearly and coherently.”

The memorial service witnessed a slew of guests paying homage to “the most trusted man of America”.
