vuvu June 21, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): The fans of England caused much commotion by blowing on horns, last Saturday. The Premier Inn ,chain of hotels had decided to ban the vuvuzelas on account of this incident. The manager, himself, had been unable to sleep due to the noise created by the unruly British fans.

The Newcastle Central hotel witnessed the cacophony caused by the football fans who were cheering their team during the England- Algeria match. The fans caused the racket just outside the hotel premises and then left for the clubs and other bars in the locality.

The Premier Inn, located close to the Heathrow airport also saw a large number of fans blowing their vuvuzelas. The manager could not really stop the noise that was deafening as the hotel did not have a previous policy that endorsed asking the fans to stop blowing their vuvuzelas. However, the hotel staff was most emphatic about it being enforced.

A spokesperson said that the hotel has now adopted the policy of requesting all guests to retire to their rooms if they were found to possess vuvuzelas. “The ban is expected to last until the world cup soccer gets over. However, the period of ban may be extended depending on the circumstances.” She added.

The coach of the England football team, Fabio Capello, has also banned the use of vuvuzelas which created an ear splitting noise. The team including the 64 year old coach was unable to rest on the day before the England-Algeria match as the fans insisted on expressing their joy by blowing on the horns. This went on till the early hours of the morning causing Capello to blow his top.
