JERUSALEM, ISRAEL (BNO NEWS) – At least 10 Israelis on Wednesday were injured after riots erupted in Temple Mount, Jerusalem following the death of a Palestinian man, officials said.

Palestinians began throwing rocks at Israeli security officers, vehicles and buses causing injuries and material damages. The riots took place in the Old City of Jerusalem at the Western Wall.

The Western Wall is the Judaism’ holiest site. It was being visited by numerous worshipers ahead of the Sukkot festival that was to begin at sundown. Israeli riot police were deployed to the area and have controlled the situation. They entered the compound of the Al-Aqsa mosque where the protestors withdrawn.

Among the ten injured, there is a 35-year-old man who was stabbed in the back as well as three police officers. All wounded were reported to be in stable condition. A police vehicle and several other vehicles were set on fire and three buses were destroyed.

The riots were in protest of the killing of a Palestinian man on Wednesday morning by Israeli security forces. The 32-year-old man was gunned down in the East Jerusalem area of Silwan, a region that frequently witnesses tensions over its settler enclave.

A security patrol vehicle was driving to a settler home in Silwan when Palestinian residents blocked the way and began hurling rocks at the Israeli vehicle. The guard, fearing for his life, allegedly opened fire at the group of rock throwers and killed one of them.

A subsequent search revealed two knives and screwdriver on the body of the victim who had a previous criminal history. Approximately, one thousand people joined the funeral procession for the deceased Palestinian.
