July 24th, 2010 - 1:02 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattWashington DC, July 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Veteran journalist Daniel Schorr has died. He was 93 years old. He breathed his last on Friday, in a hospital in Washington. He was a critical component of the National Public Radio for the last three decades. Even though the exact cause of death is not known, but according to the NPR he died after a brief illness.
At the time of his death, his family was present around him. Even though he was in his 90’s yet he was still working with NPR and his very last ‘Week Review’ commentary was aired to the viewers on the 10th of July 2010. Sadly this would be the last commentary by the legendary journalist. He has been a part of NPR since 1970 and used to look after the arena of national politics.
Daniel Schorr had been covering the news for such a long time, that he had once very aptly described himself as a ‘living history book’. “He could compare presidents from Eisenhower on through, and that gave him historical context for things. He had lived it, he had worked it and he had absorbed it. That added a layer to his broadcasting that was hard for somebody his junior to match,” according to Donald A. Ritchie, who is a Senate historian and also the writer of a book, which is based on the Washington press corps.
