Vehicle driven into Genesee, NY river kills one man

GENESEO, NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) – A vehicle on Friday was driven into the Genesee River in the Town of Geneseo, New York, drowning one man, officials said.

Sheriff John York reported that the Livingston 911 center received a report of a vehicle that had been driven into the river. Arriving units from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office observed the undercarriage of vehicle just visible below the surface of the river.

Geneseo, Livonia, and Lakeville Fire Department water rescue boats along with divers from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police assisted in the recovery of the vehicle.

The operator was pronounced dead after being pulled from the river. He was identified as Brian Austin, 44, of Leicester, New York.

The investigation into any contributing causes for the crash is being handled by the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division.
