Vatican to release sex abuse document

Vatican City, July 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Vatican said on Tuesday that the Pope is working on releasing a document that will give directions on how sex abuse by priests should be attended to. The new document will organizes procedures being used now and make them legal.

The Vatican has been hit with many cases of sexual abuse against catholic priests all over the world, and this has made it more important for the “instruction from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith’’ to be published sooner even though the church has been working on it for some time.

Priests who are found guilty of sexual abuse are punished severely and some are even sacked from the church. In 2001, the church’s laws were changed and bishops were to report priests accused of sexual abuse were to be reported to the church and could result in trials.

The church changed its laws to punish priests who abused people sexually without delay in 2003, after more accusations were leveled against priests. These laws were made in a rush and more permanent ones had to be made when Pope Benedict XVI became head of the Catholic Church in 2005.
