WASHINGTON D.C. (BNO NEWS) – U.S. Vice President Joe Biden spoke on Wednesday to various Iraqi officials to talk about the recent developments in the Asian country, the White House informed.

Vice President Biden called Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. In the conversation, the U.S. Vice President expressed his sympathy and condolences for the victims and the victims’ relatives of recent attacks.

On Sunday, a series of bombings in Baghdad killed dozens of people and injured many civilians; an attack which was condemned worldwide due to the targeting of civilians and diplomats in the Iraqi capital. Three suicide bombers set off explosions within moments of each other, apparently targeting foreign embassies in central Baghdad. More than 40 people were killed in the blasts and as many as 200 others were injured.

Vice President Biden also expressed that the U.S. government has full confidence in the capabilities of the Iraqi Security forces for dealing with the situation. He also reminded that the U.S. is ready to provide assistance if it’s necessary.

Finally the vice president reiterated the respect for Iraqi sovereignty during the ongoing government formation process and encouraged all sides to work together to form an inclusive and representative government.
