US Transportation Security Administration to start ‘Trusted Traveler Program’
October 5th, 2011 - 12:17 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattWashington, Oct 4 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A new US Transportation Security Administration program which comes into force on Tuesday will group travelers in the United States to trusted and not-so trusted passengers. The trusted passengers under the “Trusted Traveler Program” will be given snappy checks through the security checks when they travel.
However the others will still be subjected to the current rigorous checks. The TSA announced that they introduced the program to ensure that security checks at the various airports are expedited. The program has been described as risky but the TSA defends that they will start with fewer passengers – between 5,00 and 8,000 passengers. Based on the outcome of the pilot run, the program will be extended to include more people.
Head of TSA, John S. Pistole, announced in a statement ahead of the implementation of the program that, “As TSA moves further away from a one-size-fits-all approach, our ultimate goal is to provide the most effective security in the most efficient way possible… This new screening system holds great potential to strengthen security while significantly enhancing the travel experience whenever possible for passengers.”
Since the 9/11 attacks, the TSA has come up with several measures including the full-body scanner to keep terrorists at bay.
