U.S. State Department issues Travel Warning for Eritrea

WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) – The U.S. Department of State issued a new Travel Warning to Eritrea on Tuesday, recommending U.S. citizens to defer all travel the African country.

U.S. citizens are strongly advised to avoid travel near the Eritrean-Ethiopian border and to the Southern Red Sea region, including the port of Assab.

Eritrean government has restricted travel outside the capital city of Asmara, requiring all visitors and residents, including foreign nationals and resident diplomats, to apply 10 days in advance for permission to travel outside the capital’s city limits.

There have been an increased number of U.S. citizens and Eritrean-U.S. dual citizens arrested without clear justification with heightened tensions along Eritrea’s borders with Ethiopia and Djibouti, but as a result of the restrictions, the U.S. Embassy cannot provide emergency consular assistance outside of Asmara.

There is a large number of Eritrean and Ethiopian troops along the Eritrean-Ethiopian border, and acute political tensions between the two countries.

Detainees may be held for extended periods without receiving any information regarding their incarceration. Conditions are harsh – those incarcerated may be held in very small quarters without access to restrooms, bedding, food or clean water, and the Eritrean government does not inform embassies when foreigners are arrested or detained.

The U.S. Embassy is located at 179 Alaa Street, P.O. Box 211, Asmara; telephone (291-1) 12-00-04, available 24 hours in case of emergency; fax (291-1) 124-255 and (291-1) 127-584; web site http://asmara.usembassy.gov/.

  4. Muller wedi Erey Says:

This is just cheap scare tactics by those lame diplomats at the US State Dept to destroy to the good name of Eritrea and its leadership. Eritrea is safer, in many respects, than the USA itself. The border dispute with Ethiopia is solved but the US is encouraging the servant regime in Ethiopia not to obey the ruling of int’l court just to destabilize Eritrea. This will not work. Eritea will succeed. Obama is a MISLEADER.
Repeal the UNjust and UNfair sanctions on Eritrea today.
Eritreans will never accept a US imposed stooge as a leader.

  5. picazo Says:

Dear US state department members! Why you fear and make people afraid of the safest and inocent Eritrea? Why do not You change Your alliance from Ethipia towards Eritrea? Is it the matter of heredity that is making you to go blindly? I confidently conclud so. Please try to open your closed eyes…Then you will learn more from Eritrea.

  6. Munir Says:

If the border issue is on both countries why there is not restriction to travel to Ethiopia?????

  7. Casar Says:

I think the whole world is led by the head of a single man! that is why all the absent minded are following the same way. Can’t you investigate ground facts? why do not you settle problems instead of provoking? I thought that justice could prevail every where but it will prevail nowhere if every one of us is following the interest-blinded man and US leadership. Darwinism is in action.”survival of the fittest”. But who is going to survive time will show Us.And History will hold its super again.

  8. Solomon Says:

I hope this news is true. I wish there will be no CIA Agents or their doggs in this gentile State of Eritrea. USA is making in many corners of the world problems. If you not believe that, than read the books of Naom Chomsky an US- Citzens. The United States is a Leading
    Terrorist State. http://www.monthlyreview.org

    Simply denial!

State Dept is suffering from denial mode of its loss against peaceful country Eritrea, in response to the justified Internaional support of Eritrean people and its gov’t, by Eritreans, and Ethiopians included, all over the World, against the US crafted and proxy slave Uganda presented Unfair, Unjust, and illegal sanctions towards Eritrea.

In light of Eritreans’ land occupation by the mercinary Woyane, after the Final and Binding resoulution, brokered by the USA, the bigots from State Dept better cannot learn from February 22, 2010 World Wide demonstration that Independent Eritrea is the most peaceful country in Horn of Africa, no matter how much fabrication without proof is made in Washington.

Long live peaceful and principled Eritrea !

Eritrea will Never Kneel Down to injustice!

Justice, Freedom and prosperity for all!

  10. Ertrawi Says:

I just can not stop questioning my self and others: What is that ERITREA did to the Government of US to deserve this cruel and unfair treatment ? Answer: Nobody knows except those who are passing this kind of rubbish on behalf of the honest and hard working US citizens. It seems like the only IDEA or SOLUTION that counts in this world must come from or under supervision of the U.S. (government)? If the U.S. really seek to bring peace and stability in the horn of Africa and beyond, my advice would be: Learn from your previous mistakes, try to understand the culture and ways of the local people instead of dictating how WE (the world) should live, respect the sovereignty of an independent nations (do not close your eyes for or create unjust situations). Above all as a super power, try to be a fare and firm judge and stop twisting the truth for your own advantages again and again and again…
To start with: Annul the US, UNjust and UNfair sanctions on Eritrea today!!
Eritrea will prevail no matter what!

    Twisting the facts!

The truth is, of all the countries around us, Eritrea is by far the safest country with friendly and peace loving people. The Eritrean people and government know the bitterness of war and the sweetness of peace more than any country in the entire planet.

It is well documented facts that the Eritrean Government was the 1st to warn the US about the grave consequences of Bin Laden while he was in Sudan long before 911. While a number of American Embassy offices and staffs have been the subject of many terrorist attacks elsewhere and they are heavily guarded all over the world, the American Embassy in Asmara is the safest place on Earth because for very simple reason, the Eritrean people are peace loving people and have no interest to attack anyone be it American, European even the country who is who is currently occupying our land, the Ethiopian Embassy.

All we are asking is to be left alone. Technically what they want us to do is kill each other with machete in the name of Democracy, be beggars in the name of food assistance cripple the young generation in the name of freedom of religion like we have no respected religions, destabilize the country in the name of free press, basically kill the Eritreans self reliance mentality or ideology before it mushrooms to other African countries so that the living standard of the west is not compromised period.

Eritrea has never supported any terrorist organization, never will and reserves the right to protect itself, to have its own Agenda and decide its own destiny.

Thanks to our Men and Women in Uniform for protecting our beloved nation, the State of Eritrea!

    Habtom
