- Mosul, IRAQ (BNO NEWS) – Two U.S. soldiers from the Multi-National Division North were killed when an Iraqi dressed as soldier opened fire on coalition forces on Saturday, a spokesman for the U.S. army in Iraq told BNO News.
The incident happened at a combat outpost south of Mosul, said Derrick Cheng, who is a spokesman for the U.S. military in the region. “According to initial reports, an individual dressed in an Iraqi army uniform fired on the Coalition forces and was killed in the incident,” Cheng said. Three other U.S. soldiers were injured but there was no immediate word on their conditions.
The gunman was killed after the coalition forces returned fire. “Currently, we don’t have confirmation that it was an actual Iraqi Army soldier,” Cheng said. He said the incident is currently under investigation.
The names of the deceased and wounded are being withheld pending official notification of next of kin.
