U.S. soldier killed in Iraq
October 2nd, 2009 - 11:37 am ICT by BNO NewsBAGHDAD (BNO NEWS) – A U.S. soldier died in a shooting incident at a U.S. base near Baghdad on Thursday, officials said.
The soldier, assigned to the U.S.-led Multi-National Corps-Iraq unit, was killed in an indirect fire attack that took place on Camp Liberty, a large U.S. base near Baghdad. The U.S. military confirmed the casualty.
The name of the deceased service member is being withheld for at least 24 hours after the soldier’s next of kin has been informed. The incident is currently under investigation.
More than 4,000 U.S. troops have died in Iraq since the war began in March, 2003.
