inverted Philippines flag Sep 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) On Sunday, the United States Government said that they made an “honest mistake” when the Philippine flag was accidentally displayed upside down during a meeting which was hosted by US. President Barack Obama.

To invert the flag of the Southeast Asian Nation would implicate that they are in a state of war, unlike inverting the flag of the United States, which indicates a nation in serious duress. The flag was placed upside down behind it’s president, Benigno Aquino III when the leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) met on Friday in New York.

The spokeswoman for the US Embassy, Rebecca Thompson stated, “This was an honest mistake, the U.S. treasures its close relationship and close partnership with the Philippines.”

The Philippine government added that “it was “an honest error” that “should not detract from the true significance of the summit, which showed the unprecedented cooperation between the ASEAN and the U.S.” according to Yahoo News.
