GULF OF OMAN (BNO NEWS) — U.S. and British units are searching for a U.S. sailor from the USS Halsey who went missing in the Gulf of Oman on Tuesday, the U.S. Navy said.

The sailor went missing while the USS Halsey was conducting operations in the Gulf of Oman, but few details were immediately released by the U.S. Navy. “The Sailor did not report to watch and after a search of the ship, man overboard was called away,” a U.S. Navy statement said.

Helicopters from Halsey, USNS Rainier, and the UK’s Royal Navy’s HMS Cumberland are currently conducting search and rescue operations to find the missing Sailor. F/A 18 Hornets from the USS Abraham Lincoln and a P-3 maritime patrol aircraft have also been involved in the search.

The identity of the sailor was not immediately released.
