WASHINGTON D.C. (BNO NEWS) – United States of America Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Nigerian Secretary to the Government Yayale Ahmed will inaugurate the U.S.-Nigeria Binational Commission on Tuesday in the Treaty Room at the Department of State, the Office of the spokesman announced on Monday.

The U.S.-Nigeria Binational Commission is a strategic dialogue designed to expand mutual cooperation across a broad range of shared interests. The Commission is a collaborative forum to build partnerships for tangible and measurable progress on critical shared issues.

Good Governance, Transparency, and Integrity; Energy and Investment; Food Security and Agriculture; and, Niger Delta and Regional Security Cooperation are the working groups in which the Commission will focus in the Washington or Abuja meetings.

Secretary Ahmed was appointed by Nigeria President Umaru Yar’Adua himself. President Yar’Adua won the controversial elections back in 2007. Since then he had some health issues that prevented him to perform his presidential duties at will. He hasn’t been seen since November 23, 2009, when he was checked in a Saudi Arabia clinic. His absence has created a dangerous power vacuum in the African nation.
