U.S. Military Blackhawk helicopter crashes near Lewisberg, West Virginia

LEWISBURG, WEST VIRGINIA (BNO NEWS) — An unknown number of people were injured after a Blackhawk military helicopter crashed south of the city of Lewisberg in West Virginia on Thursday, federal officials said.

The crash happened around 2 p.m. local time about 30 miles south of Lewisburg, said Jim Peters, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Peters said the aircraft was a Blackhawk military helicopter carrying an unknown number of people. “Injured are being transported to a local trauma center,” he said. The helicopter had departed Blackstone, Virginia before it crashed. Blackstone Army Airfield is located in Blackstone.

WVVA-TV reported, citing sources, that it was a Navy Helicopter that crashed. It said it was carrying 17 passengers, but BNO News was not immediately able to verify the report.
