MIAMI, FLORIDA (BNO NEWS) – A former Florida deputy, who killed a deputy in 1986, was arrested for violating parole, U.S. Marshals Office said Wednesday.

Russell Calamia, resident of Englewood, Florida, and former Orange County, Florida deputy, was arrested for violating his probation set by the Florida Department of Corrections, Probation and Parole Services. Calamia had previously been sentenced to 20 years in prison for killing a Brevard Sheriff’s Deputy in 1986.

Calamia served approximately half of his 20 year prison term, but was then ordered to successfully complete 20 years of supervised probation. However, he allegedly wrote letters that included direct and credible unlawful threats to harm a Brevard County Assistant State Attorney and threats toward the victim’s family members.

Committing the offenses of Corruption by Threat Against a Public Servant and Threats/Extortion, is a clear violation of Calamia’s probation.

After his arrest, Calamia was transported to the Sarasota County Jail and processed on his outstanding warrant.
