New York, Nov 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A former United States Marine showed a lot of stamina and endurance when he completed a 26 mile marathon wearing a gas mask. That is some achievement because the gas mask restricts the amount of oxygen that is available to you by 30 percent. Oxygen is not a luxury during a marathon. In fact the body needs as much as it can get to get the body functioning at top speed.

However it seems that the marine deprived his body of such a necessity by using the gas mask. And the reason for that was that he wanted to raise awareness to the plight of disabled veterans and the need for the society to take care of them. Marine Sgt. Jeremy Soles founded the Team X-T.R.E.M.E. (Train, Rehabilitate, Empower, Motivate, Endure) last year.

The organization which is not profit making is meant to create awareness to the plight of the veterans that have been disabled or rendered incapable during their service to their country. Soles decided to run that race this year wearing the mask after he met disabled former marine Cpl. John Peck at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in October. Peck lost his leg in Afghanistan last May as a result of a roadside bomb.
