U.S. fighter jets intercept aircraft along Mexican border in Arizona
May 17th, 2010 - 4:27 am ICT by BNO NewsPHOENIX, ARIZONA (BNO NEWS) - Two NORAD fighter jets intercepted ultralight aircraft along the Arizona/Mexico border on Sunday morning, local media reported.
KKTV-TV reports that the event occurred approximately at 6:10 a.m. Arizona time.
The news report says the two F-16s intercepted the private aircraft at the command of NORAD, then shadowed the aircraft for about 30 minutes until it returned to Mexican airspace.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is a joint organization of Canada and the United States. It provides aerospace warning, air sovereignty, and defense for both countries.
