U.S. Department of Agriculture suspends raw milk sales for two Pennsylvania farms

HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA (BNO NEWS) – Two Pennsylvania farms had their sales permits suspended, the Department of Agriculture said Monday.

Pennsylvania farms, Elmer Z. and Martha B. King, in Aaronsburg, Centre County, and Cedar Hollow Farm in Mill Hall, Clinton County, will not be allowed to sell raw milk for human consumption after test samples revealed potentially harmful pathogen levels.

Samples taken from the King farm on April 12 contained Listeria monocytogenes, while samples taken the same day from Cedar Hollow Farm tested positive for Campylobacter.

Customers who recently purchased raw milk – that which has not been pasteurized – from those farms are being urged by the department to discard it immediately as a precaution due to health risks.

The permits will be suspended until multiple laboratory samples from each farm test negative for harmful pathogens.
