U.S. confirms eight American civilians dead in Afghan blast
December 31st, 2009 - 2:41 am ICT by BNO News ( Leave a comment )KABUL (BNO NEWS) — An explosion at a U.S. base in eastern Afghanistan on Wednesday killed at least eight American civilians, a U.S. official said.
The explosion, which took place just before 5 p.m. local time, happened at the Forward Operating Base in Afghanistan’s Khost province, according to NATO officials. A high-ranking U.S. official confirmed to BNO News that at least eight Americans had been killed, but did not know if the fatalities were troops or civilians.
NATO said no U.S. or ISAF soldiers were killed or injured.
The U.S. Embassy said it was checking on the reports, and had no immediate details.
