U.S. closes Ciudad Juarez consulate after bomb threat
March 3rd, 2010 - 3:05 am ICT by BNO News ( Leave a comment )CIUDAD JUAREZ, MEXICO (BNO NEWS) — The U.S. consulate in Ciudad Juarez was evacuated and closed on Tuesday after a bomb threat, Mexican media reported.
Local radio reports said consulate security officers in cooperation with the police in Ciudad Juarez evacuated about 100 people who were still undergoing Visa process.
Police said the consulate was closed after a woman alerted the authorities of a suspected bomb through the local emergency telephone service.
The facilities at the consulate will remain closed while the search is made, but is expected to remain closed for the rest of the week, according to police sources.
The last week, Matamoros’ consular agency in Reynosa was also closed amid drug-related violence.
