Jan 20, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The deadly earthquake that devastated almost the entire civilization of Haiti has made a large number of Haitian children orphans and people have expressed concern about these innocent children, who are left alone in the world. It has been reported that 53 children of a Haitian orphanage located in the capital city, Port-au-Prince, have received shelter in the United States as their orphanage has collapsed in the earthquake.
As per the reports, the Haitian children who arrived in Pittsburgh, United States were immediately transported to the UPMC Children Hospital. To cheer up these children and make them feel a little better, they were gifted teddy bears on their arrival in the nursing home. Matthew Chandler, the spokesperson of the DHS, stated that at that time they received 90 applications for adoption. The application counts are expected to rise further as hundreds of children have lost their parents after this earthquake. People in the United States are allowed to adopt Haitian orphans for a temporary period and so it is expected that these children will get a new home.
Not only people in the United States are interested to adopt orphaned children from Haiti but also individuals in other countries have shown interest to adopt Haitian orphans. As per the reports, Canadian people have also shown great interest to get the custody of the orphan children. Though people from different places are eager to support the innocent children, the procedure would be a little tricky as the officials need to check the information of a child’s family before allowing them for adoption.
