Texas, July 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) University officials at University of Texas said that they are considering changing the name of a dormitory that was named after a prominent Klu Klux Klan member in 1800s.

The dormitory is called Simkins Residence Hall, named after William Stewart Simkins. Simkins was a prominent member of the Klu Klux Klan in the 1980s. He was also a law professor at the University, until his death in 1929.

The hall, which houses male students and graduate students, was built in the1950s and named after the former professor. But before the University can carry out its plan, the University’s board must approve the planned change. “We’re certainly not erasing Professor Simkins from the annals of UT history. All we are saying is that honorific is a very special designation and it should not harm the university’s reputation,” according to Gregory Vincent, who is the university’s vice president of diversity and community engagement.

The Klu Klux Klan is an organization, which believes in the white supremacy theory. Over the years, the group has been involved in crimes and slaughter of people who are not whites or who are against the white supremacy rule.

In an interview, most of the students were divided over the decision to change the name. Some say that the change would affect the schools image. But others claim that the University should not be made uncomfortable for some people.
