ubBuffalo, Feb 17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The North Campus of the University at Buffalo, located in Amherst, was swarming with the University and Amherst Police in search of a gunman who has supposedly seen on the campus. A group of students had reported that they had seen a man armed with a gun that looked loaded, walking toward the Lockwood Library. Reportedly, the students too had been in the library at that point of time. The rumor of the gunman was all the more alarming as only a few days back, a shooting in the University of Alabama Huntsville had killed two professors and injured three others.

The campus community was sent an email alarm asking them not to return toward the library till the area is given the all-clear. Shortly after the alarm had been raised, the Amherst and University police appeared on the scene, armed with assault rifles, sometime around 4:30 in the afternoon. The Lockwood Memorial Library had been shut down for the time being, and evacuated. The other departments were also evacuated in order to ensure the safety of the students and faculty and other staff members, and the whole building was thoroughly searched. However, the combing did not turn up anything and no weapon was found. Reportedly, no shots had been fired either.

The search continued for about three hours, and by 7:30, there still was no trace of the gunman who had allegedly been sighted. The departments were reopened in the area where the strictest security measures had been imposed. The evening classes had already been canceled, and they were not resumed as a precautionary measure. A notice was issued on the website of the University at Buffalo, saying that investigations are still on.
