United States to make additional $55 million contribution for Palestinian refugees

(BNO NEWS) – The United States will make an additional contribution of $55 million for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), the U.S. Department of State announced on Friday.
The announced contribution of $55 million includes $30 million to the UNRWA’s General Fund, which provides core services to Palestinian refugees across the region. The remaining $25 million will be given to the UNRWA’s Emergency Appeal for the West Bank and Gaza.
On February 4, the United States announced a $40 million contribution to the UNRWA. So far this year, the U.S. has contributed with $95 million. The United States is UNRWA’s largest donor. In 2009, the United States provided more than $267 million to UNRWA.
