UN removes five Taliban members from UN sanctions list
January 27th, 2010 - 6:38 am ICT by BNO NewsUNITED NATIONS (BNO NEWS) – The United Nations Security Council on Monday approved of the removal of five senior Taliban members from a UN sanctions list.
The Security Council, Al-Qaeda and Taliban Sanctions Committee, approved the deletion of five entries specified below from its Consolidated List.
The list places economic sanctions on specific individuals, groups, entities, and under takings by freezing assets, banning travel, and setting an arms embargo as set out in Security Council resolution 1904 from 2009.
Consequently, the effects of the sanctions no longer apply to the following five individuals:
Fazl Mohammad Qamaruddin, 41, the Deputy Minister of Commerce of the Taliban;
Abdul Hakim Nazar, 36, Deputy Minister of Frontier Affairs of the Taliban;
Wakil Abdul Ghaffar, 40, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Taliban;
Shams-us-Safa Aminzai, Press-Centre, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Taliban;
Mohammad Abdul Mehdi, 56, Deputy Minister of Planning of the Taliban.
