LUTON, ENGLAND (BNO NEWS) — Five men were arrested in a town near the British capital of London on early Tuesday morning on suspicion they were preparing acts of terrorism, police said. Few details about the case were immediately released.

The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), which is better known as Scotland Yard, said five men between the ages of 21 and 35 were arrested by unarmed officers at separate residential addresses in Luton, a large town about 27 miles (45 kilometers) northwest of London. They were taken to a central London police station.

“This morning’s arrests, at five different houses in the Bury Park area, are part of a pre-planned, intelligence led operation by the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command,” a spokesperson for Bedfordshire Police said. “At the moment, officers from the Metropolitan Police are carrying out thorough searches of the addresses of the people who have been arrested and this is expected to take a minimum of 24 hours.”

Other details about the arrests were not immediately released, but police said there is no danger to residents living nearby. All five suspects remained in custody at a central London police station as of late Tuesday afternoon.
