Two die when small plane crashes in South Africa
August 21st, 2010 - 8:35 pm ICT by BNO NewsBRAKPAN, SOUTH AFRICA (BNO NEWS) — Two people were killed on early Saturday morning when their small plane crashed in South Africa’s Gauteng province, authorities said.
The small aircraft went down just after 7 a.m. local time near an airport in the Brakpan area of the country’s Gauteng province, according to Chris Botha, a spokesman for Netcare 911.
Botha said that when emergency services arrived on the scene they found that the light aircraft had crashed nose first into an open field near the airport. “Tragically both of the occupants of this aircraft had died on impact due to the extensive injuries that they had sustained,” he said.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known and will be investigated by both police and civil aviation authorities.
