Two coalition troops die in Afghan incidents

KABUL (BNO NEWS) — Two coalition troops were killed in southern and eastern Afghanistan on Saturday, military officials said on Sunday.

The NATO-led ISAF alliance said one service member was killed as a result of indirect fire in eastern Afghanistan. A second service member died in an improvised explosive device (IED) strike in southern Afghanistan.

NATO said the second casualty was not related to Operation Moshtarak, but it did not say if the first one was.

The nationalities of the casualties were not immediately released. It is ISAF policy to not identify fallen service members until national authorities have done so. An exception is for fallen Americans unless they died during Operation Moshtarak, which involves only a low number of countries.

Saturday’s casualties bring the total number of troops killed in Afghanistan so far this year to 82, according to BNO News figures. Most of the casualties were American troops who died in IED strikes.
