Two Chicago Firefighters Killed And More Than Fifteen Injured In Blaze

article-0-0c90595e000005dc-950_468x349Dec 23, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Two firefighters were killed in Chicago when a building partially collapsed while they were in a rescue operation to douse the flame. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office reported that more than 17 firefighters were injured in the rescue attempt. The Fire Commissioner of Chicago, Robert Huff said that the two firefighters, who were killed in the accident are identified as Edward Stringer, 47, and Corey Ankum, 38. Robert Huff said that these two firefighters were helping to sweep the abandoned building when like a bolt from the blue, the roof collapsed and they were trapped inside it.

Robert Huff said that the other firefighters are admitted to hospital with minor injuries. The law enforcement officials said that a “mayday” was called and more than 150 rescue officers and firefighters came to rescue the trapped firefighters at the building in South side in Chicago. Mayor Richard Daley expressed his condolence at the unfortunate demise of the firefighters and asked the citizens to pray for Edward Stringer and Corey Ankum’s families. The Mayor, the news conference said that the tragic fire demonstrates the commitment and selfishness of people who work 24 hours a day to earn their bread and butter to ensure that the other citizens are safe.

Even the Fire Commissioner said that the major concern of the commission is the families of these victims. Chicago fire union chief Tom Ryan told that the firefighters, who were doing their jobs knew that their work was essential and important for the city and safety of the citizens. Robert Huff said that the firefighters responded to a call on early Wednesday morning and the fire was at the backside of the building. However, the mishap happened when the roof suddenly collapsed.
