Two Al-Qaeda in Iraq members and 4 associates arrested

BAGHDAD (BNO NEWS) — Two suspected Al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) members and four criminal associates were arrested Monday, U.S. Forces in Iraq said.

Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) and U.S. advisors conducted separate security operations in southern and northern Iraq on Monday, searching buildings for a suspected AQI member who is allegedly involved in assassinations, and has ties to senior AQI leadership.

Four criminal associates along with the warranted AQI member were arrested after gathering information and evidence at the first explored scene.

Several building were also searched in a different joint operation conducted northeast of Baghdad, as ISF and U.S. advisors pursued a suspected AQI member who is allegedly involved in improvised explosive device attacks, indirect fire attacks, assassinations, kidnapping and insurgent financing.

The warranted AQI individual was identified and arrested with the material gathered at the scene.

Iraqi and U.S. forces conduct joint operations in accordance with the Security Agreement and in coordination with the Iraqi government to target terrorists seeking to disrupt the security and stability of Iraq.
