Haiti, Jan 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The worst earthquake in recent years, devastated Haiti on Tuesday. Communications were disrupted. Danglass Gregoire, a resident of Haiti went to a trip in Florida on Tuesday while his wife and daughter stayed back home. After arriving at Miami International Airport, he learnt that an earthquake broke out in a place close to his residence. He panicked and desperately tried to communicate. With no results however. “I call. I call. I call. No one answers,” he says. Same was the situation for most of the people in other US cities. People desperately tried to communicate with their relatives and friends to find out whether they could survive the devastating earthquake.
Once again, it is social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook that proved to be the active hub of the incident. It is only through the social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook that we got an elaborate view of the earthquake. With the disruption in communication, the posts in Twitter gives us a more concrete picture. Twitter is full of well wishes for the affected people in Haiti. Residents took pictures in their mobile phone and published it on web, which is giving us a glimpse of the tragic occurrence in the Caribbean.
@MarvinAdy, a Twitter user has also shared a lot of pictures of this devastating incident which has received wide responses. Thousands of pictures and updates are coming on Facebook and Twitter each second. Web has become the primary medium of communication and interaction about this catastrophe, which has thoroughly shaken the Caribbean nation.
