Tsunami waves observed after powerful Vanuatu quake
December 25th, 2010 - 9:54 pm ICT by BNO NewsVANUATU ISLANDS (BNO NEWS) — The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says tsunami waves have been observed after a powerful 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck near the Vanuatu Islands.
“Sea level readings confirm that a tsunami was generated,” the agency said in a bulletin. “This tsunami may have been destructive along coastlines of the region near the earthquake epicenter.”
A tsunami warning remains in effect for Vanuatu, New Caledonia and Fiji.
