Washington, Mar 17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The TSA has declared that it is pushing to make the use of the full body scanners in airports necessary, keeping in mind the fact of the growing terrorism threats to the country. The decision has long been pending, despite the fact that the full body scanners had indeed been a great necessity in the airports, considering the increasing threat of suicide attacks and other forms of terrorism. The necessity of the scanners became all the more evident when a Nigerian terrorist, possibly linked to the Al-Qaeda, attempted to detonate an explosive device that he carried inside his underwear, in a Detroit bound plane.
However, the TSA has recently declared that full body scanners are going to be implemented in all the major airports of the country, in some of whom the scanners have already arrived. The full body scanners have already been implemented in the O’Hare International Airport in Chicago. Some other airports have also been instructed by the Transport Security Administration of the United States to install the new security systems, like the Midland International Airport and the Kansas City International Airport.
The installation of the security systems has long been deterred. Most vocal was the claim that the full body scanners violate the privacy of the individuals, as they create graphic images of the person being scanned. It was also claimed that the scanners would be violating child pornography rights, following which anyone under 18 was exempted from the scan. However, according to recent reports, the scanned person will never be seen by the officer in charge, and those who decline to get themselves scanned will be checked by a metal detector, manually.
